Happy Sunday, friends! Thanks to a truly wonderful idea by @LadyOddDuck, we have a bit of a new take on this series to offer you today. We’ll be celebrating the crafty cleverness of several shops that sell handmade goodies inspired by video games. From fresh tea leaves, to scented candles, to stunning jewelry, you can rest assured that quality is of the utmost priority.
We’re delighted that we have a chance to highlight the important work of small businesses in the geek space. All of the shops listed here are run by gamers like us, and it’s exciting to share in their enthusiasm by purchasing their products! Of course, if you or someone you know runs a crafty shop with a geek twist, let us know. We’d love to run more posts like this one!
As always, if you know of an inclusive gaming space or games project you’d love to see promoted on our Sunday Loot series, drop us a comment below or check out our contact list! We’d love to hear from you, especially about new and exciting spaces where all gamers can hang out. ✌
For all you tea lovers out there looking to try new flavors, this is the shop for you! Beastly Beverages currently offers quite a few Dragon Age-inspired teas, among other geeky selections. Aptly named “What Magic Spoiled” (black tea, green tea, mallow, cornflower petals), “Witch of the Wilds” (lapsang souchong, cloves), and more, we definitely plan to put in an order soon.
Beastly Beverages officially opened on Etsy in 2013, and has been going strong since. Its physical shop is located in the United Kingdom! And for anyone wondering (like us), the gorgeous artwork featured on the packaging is by Alex S. We hope you enjoy a little taste of your faves!
“I believe that intentionality is everything, and that good thoughts will create good actions. By creating jewelry imbued with words of friends, love, and humor, I try to make the world a little more beautiful.”
This was the shop @LadyOddDuck told us about, and with a recommendation like that, we knew we had to check it out. We certainly weren’t disappointed! Melissa Dawn Designs offers a wide variety of gorgeous handmade accessories, and many pieces were inspired by games that we know and love.
What’s really neat about Melissa’s work is that she also provides a behind-the-scenes look into her design process. We were so charmed by her story about how Dragon Age: Inquisition inspired her work, particularly Cassandra Pentaghast, and how that informed the design of two rings. For more behind-the-scenes goodies, check out Melissa’s blog, and of course, visit more of her links below!
“After a lifetime of appreciation for things that smell nice and light on fire, I made my first candle as a rainy day crafts project and immediately fell in love.”
Simon & Duffy is a charming shop that also offers a peek into the creation process on their website. Updates regarding discounted prices and sales are posted there, too, not to mention their coupon code names are all super cute.
This shop provides handmade scented candles that are lovingly crafted by—you guessed it!—gamers like us. They have candles such as Ma Vhenan (patchouli, vanilla) and Golden Halla (oatmeal, milk, ginger, pear), among others. It really makes us want to light one while we return to the Hinterlands to finish a few more side quests! We hope you enjoy the work that Simon & Duffy are doing as much as we do.
For all the cosplayers out there, this shop is for you! Even if you’ve never cosplayed before, The Modest Maiden makes it extremely easy to get started. Incredible costume pieces are modeled after characters from games like Cole’s outfit, Anders’ robes, and Hawke’s robes. The quality of work is absolutely stunning and very moderately priced, considering the level of detail.
The shop owner, Charlene, also takes custom orders! If you have something in mind and you feel inspired by what you see in her shop, we highly recommend that you send her a message. She’s super accommodating and very easy to chat with! We’re currently commissioning her for a piece that we can’t wait to share with everyone. ❤
“I’m very passionate about video games. My husband built me my customized computer especially for PC gaming. It was a labor of love and now it’s my pride and joy.”
The Wind Fish (we love the name!) is a shop full of beautifully crafted jewelry with quotes from some of our all time favorite games. Bracelets, necklaces, keychains, and more are available for any occasion. Pair it with a cosplay or simply wear your loot casually! This makes for a great discussion piece, and you’re sure to make new friends while wearing these accessories.
Janelle, the brains behind this operation, also runs another Etsy shop called The Lavender Forest, which consists of hand-poured natural soy candles! If you feel inspired by any of her work, she takes custom orders as well.
