Happy Sunday, friends! We’re getting our serious spook on this week with another round of innovative news from the gaming industry. To celebrate all the celebratory pumpkin and PSL festivities, quite a few of the games we discuss today will have an added creep factor. Horror not your thing? We’ve got you covered! All of these games have one thing in common: they’re up for support on Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight, and they need your help to become a reality!
Every week, our team assembles all the latest and greatest projects (and people!) working hard to shape a new era in the gaming industry. It’s only with your support that these games and spaces can truly reach their full potential, and we here at FemHype are more than happy to connect you to them. We’re seeing some big changes happening these days, and all of that is possible because you’re here and you care deeply about these initiatives. Seriously, you’re so awesome. Grab yourself a PSL and settle in for your loot!
As always, if you know of an inclusive gaming space or games project you’d love to see promoted on our Sunday Loot series, drop us a comment below or check out our contact list! We’d love to hear from you, especially about new and exciting spaces where all gamers can hang out. ✌
We discussed @KivaBay’s game jam, Little Bytes, during our last Sunday Loot. You still have time to join that initiative if you’re interested! This time, however, we’re turning our attention to her latest game, 12 Hours. A free text-based game, you play as a woman experiencing homelessness who must stay alive and avoid incarceration before daylight when she will finally be able to take refuge in a local student union. This isn’t the first time Kiva has brought much-needed attention to this very subject—and if you haven’t read her comic, “Shut Up and Take My Money! A Tale of a Poor Gamer,” you absolutely should.
We actually got a chance to play a preview of the game, and it’s unsurprisingly fantastic. If you want an opportunity to experience a deeply moving game, consider helping 12 Hours by giving it a thumbs up on Steam Greenlight.
A Matter of Murder
We’ve been super excited about this particular game for a while now. A Matter of Murder is a point-and-click puzzle game where you work to solve the mystery of who murdered a guest at a posh English party. It’s like every murder mystery dinner you ever attended, except way deadlier and way more fun. Trust us. This game was even recently showcased at the Boston Festival of Indie Games! That’s a seriously big deal, and we’re all too eager to get the chance to play it for ourselves.
So, if you’re jazzed about a weekend in the country filled with good food, delightful conversation, and a side of intrigue, A Matter of Murder is for you. You’ll be halfway there if you give the team a thumbs up on Steam Greenlight.
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan
This is your chance to support a truly innovative, much-needed game breaking new ground in the industry. We’ve had our eye on this particular project for a while now—and for good reason. Aurion is a fantasy action-RPG that expertly (and beautifully, might we add) brings African magic and mythology right to your fingertips. You’ll explore a wonderful retelling of African lore with challenging combat and puzzles and a wide range of diverse characters.
This game is as much an education as it is a creative departure from the well-trod industry norm. With hand-drawn animation and 20 hours of gameplay, you’re getting your money’s worth by backing Aurion. Jump on this project before it ends on Kickstarter!
This game is sure to get your spook on for the Halloween season. Even if you aren’t a Lovecraft enthusiast, Lovecraftesque offers a wide range of experiences for the savvy gamer. It’s an RPG game of “brooding cosmic horror,” which, quite honestly, hooked us immediately. With the help of your friends, you’ll get the chance to become the GM of your own horror story, and the results might surprise you.
For anyone who might be brave enough to give Lovecraftesque a try, there’s a free download available. Give the bare bones version a try and see what you make of it! We’re certain you’ll be suitably spooked.
